Hold Your Own Keys at the Bar
Becky is very particular about this one.
Holding your own keys is not about trust.
It is about responsibility.
If someone else is holding your keys, they are holding your exit.
They decide when you leave, how you leave, and what condition you leave in.
Becky has seen people give their keys away casually, the way they give away small decisions.
They mean nothing by it at the time.
Later, they mean everything.
Adulthood is knowing where your important things are.
And not outsourcing that knowledge to whoever is closest.
You can enjoy company without surrendering control.
You can be polite without being careless.
Your keys belong to you.
So does your judgment.
If you want to leave, you should be able to leave.
